The most recent line-of-duty death in the WSP:
"On February 23, 2012 at 12:57 a.m., Trooper Tony V. Radulescu, 44, made a traffic stop of a vehicle on SR 16 near Gorst. During the course of the traffic stop, Trooper Radulescu, a 16-year veteran, was shot and killed by the driver of the vehicle."

The Foundation provides financial assistance to Washington State Patrol
employees who become disabled in the line of duty, to surviving spouses
and children of Fallen Officers and employees who die in the line of
duty, and for the families of employees impacted by catastrophic
injury or illness.

In the United States, 140 -160 police officers are killed in the line
of duty each year. 270 Washington State law enforcement officers have
been killed in the line of duty (as of March 2006). Washington State
averages 2 law enforcement deaths every year.
